thanks for the birthday wishes/presents everybody.

heres a school update so far...

wake up to my cell phone ringing m.i.a's paper planes at 6:40. get ready while listening to radio. walk to bus stop. eat something for breakfast. get on bus. talk on the bus. go inside school and talk in senior hallway. go to first hour.

    ani-skye-snacks

    1st- speech I. mrs goetton.

    untitledy

mrs goetton is cool and she talks to me a lot. she has big arm muscles and a tiny body so i always wonder what she does after school. we just got done with our 1 minute interview speeches and now were doing 5 minute informative speeches on an event or place. im doing new zealand because honestly i couldnt think of anything first hour.  a 10 slide slide show and a printed outlined speech is required. we work in class. i sit next to ashley who is doing japan. shes kind of quirky but fun to talk to anyway. i find myself squinting during the whole class though because the sun comes through the window right at me.

    2nd- bio130 ms gaffney.

    shroud

ms gaffney is a very drole and monotone person. she has tiny glasses and a middle part. we are talking about proteins right now and im confused actually. we go off topic A LOT. i ask her lots of questions. i have no idea what her religion is but she doesnt bias her teaching so its ok i guess. we recently talked about the shroud of turin and watched a video. i thinks its just a hoax. she gives crazy examples for scientific terms. i know how dna is put together now : dehydration synthesis. or just losing water. she gave the example of people holding hands. she held a student hand and squirted water out of dropper. ...shes weird. but we all like her anyway. i sit next to megan and we write down weird things mrs gaffney says. cody and chelsea sit in front of me. cody says hes going to make a commune because the governments corrupt. chelsea fixes her makeup during class.

3rd- algebra 2 honors mrs pranger

    findX

mrs pranger is extremely cool. this is mrs prangers last year. on friday i gave her a  balloon with a smiley face. she held it up to her face and talked in a high pitched voice during class. were doing functions and vertex stuff right now. math is boring. we have homework everyday. i always get it done in class though.

    4th A lunch. betty millsdancing-banana

     ani-kyouya-airguitar

betty mills is awesome. shes short, wears seasonal hats and calls me miss woody, honey, or candace occasionaly. the lunch is so so. i sit by megan joe sam josie ellie jennifer emily ciara. we got lunch cards with our new pictures on them. mine looks ok. people say i look like candace. i dont think so. tyler prough does the banana song when we have bananas for lunch. the dance is kind of hard to explain in words lol.

    4th band mr mielke

    jimi-hendrix

mr mielke reminds me of a rabbit. he uses hands too much when hes talking and he doesnt really get a lot of respect. our band isnt as good as it was last year because most of our drummers graduated. the drummers this year cant keep the tempo. oh well. we have better formations on the field now. one we do the wave and then bow in a wave. people say it looks really cool. we play jimi hendrix songs and jenny. which is a pretty catchy song.

    5th fine arts mr mielke

    twilight-zone

we had mrs goetton for drama for a couple weeks and now we have mr mielke for music. in drama we made little diorama sets, teaser posters, and watched the twilight zone. me and rheanna got first on the teaser posters and people said we should have won first for our twilight zone episode we wrote. i sit next to rheanna and joey in music and we talk the whole time. mr mielke isnt a really good "teacher". he just says random things about the stuff were learning about. we went to the fox theatre the week of my birthday and it was SO COOL. the whole thing is in a siamese byzantine architecture form and it looks beautiful. we got to go back stage where people who performed there wrote on the walls. then we went to union station to eat. i got panda express and sat by sam  and emily. then we bought bags of candy from this big candy store. on the way home the ac broke on the bus

6th us history III honors mr henry

    Brady19

this is my least favorite class. i like mr bearly more than mr henry. mr henrys weird. i think he still does drugs. he did his janis joplin impression the other day. that was pretty funny. we just got done with the 70s. the 70s were dumb. people were going crazy and making cults. im glad i didnt grow up in the 70s. i had to make cookies for my birthday because he gets mad if you dont bring them for the class. everybody "loved" them and mr henry said the best cookie recipes were the woody recipes. i think vonnas are personally. i had like 50 when i went to school but people asked me for one the whole day and by the time i got home there were none left. thanks mom for making me them :)

7th eng III honors mrs bowman

    untitled

i haaaate writing. id rather draw a story than write it. mrs bowman reminds me of a tall skinny bird. shes pretty though. when she yells/talks at us it sounds like shes in distress. i sit next to daniel whos a crazy kid. hes the tallest guy in our grade and wants to be a film director. he makes flash animations when were not writing. we both read ted dekker books so thats what we mainly talk about. he goes to a church almost like mine i dont think theres a difference actually. right now in class were writing a narrative essay. boring. im a clock watcher in that class

3:01 get out. get on bus or get a ride back. go home.

THANK YOU MARTHA FOR THE EGG! hopefully youll see this :)

and i got this reeeeally cool graphics tablet from my parents. its called a bamboo. why bamboo? i have no idea.

    -- Tar Heel --

---------------is a nickname applied to the state and inhabitants of North Carolina, as well as the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill's athletic teams.

The exact etymology of the nickname is unknown, but most experts believe its roots come from the fact that tar, pitch and turpentine created from the vast pine forests were one of North Carolina's most important exports early in the state's history.

Because the exact history of the term is unknown, many legends have developed to explain the history of the term. Some people believe it to be a nickname given during the U.S. Civil War, due to the state's importance on the Confederate side. "The North Carolina's troops stuck to their ranks like they had tar on their heels," you will hear some Southerns say.

    History of term

In its early years as a colony, North Carolina settlements became an important source of the naval stores tar, pitch, and turpentine especially for the English navy. At one time, an estimated 100,000 barrels of tar and pitch were shipped annually to England. Historians Hugh Lefler and Albert Newsome claim in North Carolina: the History of a Southern State that North Carolina led the world in production of naval stores, from about 1720 to 1870. Tar and pitch were largely used to paint the bottom of wooden British ships in order to both seal the ship and to prevent shipworm from damaging the hull.

At the time, tar was created by piling up pine logs and burning them until hot oil seeped out from a canal. The vast production of tar from North Carolina led many, including Walt Whitman, to give the derisive nickname of "Tarboilers" to the residents of North Carolina. North Carolina was nicknamed the "Tar and Turpentine State" because of this industry.

Somehow, these terms evolved until the nickname Tar Heel was used to refer to residents of North Carolina and gained prominence during the American Civil War. During this time, the nickname Tar Heel was a pejorative, similar to how the nickname white trash is used today, but starting around 1865, the term began to be used as a source of pride.

    Legendary explanations

    River fording by General Cornwallis

According to this legend, the troops of British General Cornwallis during the American Revolutionary War were fording what is now known as the Tar River between Rocky Mount and Battleboro when they discovered that tar had been dumped into the stream to impede the crossing of British soldiers. When they finally got across the river, they found their feet completely black with tar. Thus, the soldiers observed that anyone who waded through North Carolina rivers would acquire "tar heels."

    Ability to hold ground

In the third volume of Walter Clark's Histories of the Several Regiments from North Carolina in the Great War, the author explains that the nickname came from the North Carolina troops ability to hold their ground during a battle. According to the book, North Carolina troops held their ground during a battle in Virginia during the American Civil War while other supporting troops retreated. After the battle, supporting troops asked the victorious North Carolinians: "Any more tar down in the Old North State, boys?" and they replied: "No, not a bit; old Jeff's bought it all up." The supporting troops continued: "Is that so? What is he going to do with it?" The North Carolinian troops' response: "He is going to put it on you'ns heels to make you stick better in the next fight."

    -Reluctant secession-

The State of North Carolina was one of the last states to secede from the United States of America (Tennessee was the last to do so) and as a result the state was nicknamed the "reluctant state" by others in the south. The joke circulating around at the beginning of the war went something like this: " Got any tar?"- "No, Jeff Davis has bought it all."- "What for?"- "To put on you fellow's heels to make you stick." As the war continued, many North Carolinian troops developed smart replies to this term of ridicule. Such as when the 4th Texas Infantry lost its flag at Sharpsburg. Passing by the 6th North Carolina a few days afterwards, the Texans called out, "Tar Heels!", and the reply was, "Ifin you had had some tar on your heels, you would have brought your flag back from Sharpsburg."

    Robert E. Lee quotation

During the late unhappy war between the States it was sometimes called the "Tar-heel State," because tar was made in the State, and because in battle the soldiers of North Carolina stuck to their bloody work as if they had tar on their heels, and when General Lee said, "God bless the Tar-heel boys," they took the name.

A letter found in 1991 by North Carolina State Archivist David Olson somewhat supports this theory that Lee might have stated something similar to this. The letter dated from 1864 (in the North Carolina "Tar Heel Collection") a Colonel Joseph Engelhard described the Battle of Ream's Station in Virginia. In that letter he states: "It was a 'Tar Heel' fight, and ... we got Gen'l Lee to thanking God, which you know means something brilliant."

    SO....

BASICALLY ITS BECAUSE NC HAS A LOT OF TAR IN IT.

    yep.

    ANYWAY
